Last we spoke about how a PACS can be integrated with your HL-7 compliant EHR under the existing Meaningful Use 2.0 level. (Click here to review that blog.)

But just when you through it was safe to go into the water again, here comes MU 3.0. Although MU 3.0 will not be implemented fully until 2018, it is good to be aware of what is coming.

Below find a fine article on the subject.

As the article points out, there are a number of major objectives for 3.0, but when considering how your PACS can help, there are two primary issues:

1. Electronic ordering of test. Although this is not really a PACS issue, AMD can help because we have a sub-program that creates DICOM Modality Worklists from HL-7 orders. We are only one of a few companies that have both a stand-alone program and an integrated systems in our PACS. So whether you use our Catella PACS or not, we can help.

2. Patient access to information within 24-hour of the study. With our browser based system and a SSL license from your internet provider you can meet this requirement. Even if you have a very expensive legacy PACS system that you can’t afford to scrap, we have a version of Catella PACS that run along side you current system to provide this patient access.

When considering how to integrate PACS to EHR, look at the diagram above to refresh your memory on how they relate.
